Chile offers Adelante’s internship program in the neighboring cities of Viña del Mar and Valparaiso, on the country’s central coast. Interning in Chile means stepping into a real professional environment, gaining hands-on international work experience, and building your resume, with placements running year-round rather than only in summer.
When you arrive, you’ll be picked up at the airport and brought directly to your housing. From there, you’ll begin intensive Spanish language classes before your internship placement begins.

Location & Program Information
About Chile
Chile is a country of striking contrasts, stretching from the world’s driest desert to the glaciers of Patagonia. The internship program is based in Viña del Mar and Valparaiso, neighboring coastal cities with easy access to Santiago and a range of landscapes within a short trip.
Eligibility
Applicants must be at least 18 years old. A B1 (low-intermediate) Spanish level is required for every sector except Teaching English, Working with Children and Social Media, which is open to beginners with no prior Spanish required.
A valid passport is required and must be valid for at least three months beyond your length of stay in Chile.
Housing
Standard housing is your own bedroom in a shared, fully furnished 3–4 bedroom apartment with other Adelante candidates or international students, often coed. A housing deposit of $150–$200 USD is required, paid in local currency on arrival, and refunded when you leave the space in the condition you found it.
A homestay option with a local Chilean family is also available for an additional $350 USD per month and includes two meals a day and laundry service. No deposit is required if you choose the homestay option.
Life in Chile
Outside your internship, Chile offers wine country, coastal towns, and access to Patagonia’s landscapes within a short trip. Adelante staff based locally can help point you toward excursions like wine tasting, trekking, and walking tours, some of which are included during the language component of your program.
Visa Information
Most nationalities do not need a visa before arriving in Chile, but requirements vary, so confirm your situation with your local Chilean consulate or embassy. This apprenticeship program combines language classes and fieldwork for no more than 25 hours per week. For placements longer than 90 days, you may need to request an extension once you’re in Chile, and Adelante assists with that process.
Academic Credit
Many participants earn academic credit through their home university while interning in Chile, and Adelante works directly with study abroad offices and financial aid offices to support this. Confirm your program’s contact hours align with your school’s specific credit requirements before departure.

How the Application Process Works
1. Apply Online
Fill out our simple online application. There is no fee to apply, and it takes only a few minutes to get started.
2. Get on the Calendar
Eligible candidates receive a link to schedule a free, first assessment interview by phone or Google Meet.
3. Interview
We’ll learn about your background, areas of interest, Spanish level, and goals so we can start building the right placement for you.
4. Interview Results
In real time or within 1–2 business days, you will receive your interview results by email. Successful candidates receive an acceptance letter with clear next steps.
5. Confirmation
Confirm your spot within one week of acceptance with a $325 confirmation fee. This means there is no tire-kicking, and you are committed to going abroad. A second interview and full placement details follow soon after.
6. Pre-Departure
Once confirmed, you will receive a comprehensive Pre-Departure Information Packet with everything you need to prepare for your time abroad, including visa guidance if required, along with cultural prep.
